About
Nigeria's public debt, published with the document behind every figure.
True Cost of Debt publishes Nigeria's public debt figures as charts anyone can read, with the document behind every number named and linked. Each chart also publishes its own figures as a table and as CSV and JSON, so nothing here exists only as a picture.
It is not a government website, and it is not a complete record of everything Nigeria has borrowed. It holds what the Debt Management Office and other institutions have published and what a member of CISD staff has since checked against the original document. Where the official figures disagree with each other, the charts say so rather than quietly reconciling them.
This platform is part of the Youth, Debt, Development and Climate Change Project, delivered by the Centre for Inclusive Social Development with the support of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung.
Every document behind these figures is listed on the sources page, with a link to the original. How a figure gets from one of those documents to a chart is set out in the methodology, including the questions we have not yet been able to answer.
The sibling platform tracking the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the bills to amend it is at the FRA Tracker.
